After winton, as much as it sucked having the car look the way it did, I couldn’t get over how well it performed. I also didn’t want that feeling of fear setting in, fear of driving and crashing again. So when I got home I booked a spot to drive a Friday night south circuit night.
Its been a few years since I last drove to an event and seeing a lot of the boys embrace that made me miss it even more, so leaving home after work, it felt very nostalgic as I hit the 3pm traffic rush heading out to SMSP, tyres in the back, basic tools and hope that nothing goes wrong, no better rush.
With everything unloaded, I headed out. I spent no time and hit it straight away, after the first lap it felt like any fear I had was gone. I had this rush of excitement, and happiness flow through me, happiness for owning the car I do, and the smile it gives me every time I drive it, nothing beats it imo. Unfortunately that all went to shit once the rain hit, you would think rain and a corolla would go hand in hand, right? not in this instance.
I had two great runs at the start of the night, the lines i took though were the wrong ones, losing a lot of speed before turn 4, luckily I knew what I had to rectify but the rain set in, and turned the track super unpredictable in my case. I found the car so grippy in the first 3 corners, then turn 4 was basically an ice skating rink, and the last corners all grippy. I changed over to some tyres that were left over from winton, which helped a little, but it was still unpredictable, so I decided to call it for the night.
Despite all that, it was still a super fun night, how can it not be, being surrounded by great mates with cool cars. I ended up just leaning on my car, by myself in the pits, just enjoying the moment watching my mates drive the hell out of their cars.
